New Parents Accommodations Process:

When you are ready to share the news, please notify your Program Director, Program Coordinator and HR

Program Director will discuss your individual schedule needs including reasonable accommodations during pregnancy.

Please update us anytime your needs change or your doctor provides new recommendations that would impact your work schedule.
UCLA Parental Leave Policy
In the past, residents have combined various blocks such as parental leave (4 weeks), short term disability, sick days, vacation time, elective time such as Big E or reading elective (ex. Reading a parenting book), or family medical leave. Please reach out to your PD to discuss specific leave plans. You can also discuss options with your chief parent liaison or HR contact below.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Enrolling in Health care FSA or Dependent care FSA - Allows you to set aside pretax dollars to pay for eligible healthcare or dependent care expenses (including daycare!)
Medical Appointments:
Residents: All +1 week subspecialty clinics and elective time can be used for personal or family medical appointments including prenatal and well child visits. If there are additional needs for the medical care your child, yourself, or your family, please reach out to the chiefs and we will work to accommodate your needs.
Fellows: Please discuss schedule with your Program Director
ABP Parental Leave Policy
ABP sets limits on how much elective time can be waived without extending training, though this may vary for combined and accelerated programs.

Waitlists can be lengthy, so if you’re planning to enroll your baby in daycare, it’s best to apply early. When submitting your application, list the name as “Baby” followed by your last name, and use your child’s expected due date as their date of birth.

“Birthday rule” - Note that if a child has two parents with different health insurance plans, the primary health insurance for your child will automatically be under the parent with the birthday that comes first in the calendar year.
