To find the ward and workroom where we hold morning report
--> After walking from parking lot G, use the main hospital entrance on Level 1 (see below). Go through security and walk straight back past the reception/check in desk. Go past the first set of elevators on your left (visitor elevators) and use the second set (employee elevators). Take the elevator up to the 4th floor. When you step out take the hallway with the yellow stripe painted at the ceiling border and turn right. You will see the double doors to the pediatrics wing at the end of the hall (4C). Use code 4381* on the right wall keypad to enter the double doors. Once inside walk up the hallway and you will see the workroom (4C104) a few doors up on the left side (it's the door with the keypad on the handle). The code to the workroom is 210747.

Assistance from bilingual employees
It is appropriate to request assistance from a bilingual employee working in the immediate area to interpret basic information. However, encounters involving complex medical interpretation such as informed consents and end of life discussions of a patient’s illness must be done through video or telephone interpreters to ensure accuracy of interpretation.
***Special cases: When no local area bilingual employee is available, staff must use a certified bilingual employee from another area found on the bilingual bonus list that is annually updated, published and can be found on the Intranet. The certified bilingual employee or certified sign language employee contacted may be asked to perform interpreter services in other areas. Release of the employees from their regular work duties shall receive clearance by their supervisor prior to providing interpreter services in other areas. Certified American Sign Language interpreters are available through the HCIN Video Medical Interpreting Units or for in-person, through the County contracted agency vendors. Arrangements for the in-person sign language interpreters are made through Supply Chain GHX system. A patient is not required or expected to use family members or friends as interpreters. It is the responsibility of the Medical Center to provide interpreter services. A family member or friend may be used if specifically requested by the patient or in emergency circumstances, excluding informed consents Refusal for an interpreter and the use of a family member or friend as interpreter shall be documented in the patient’s medical record. Minors (17 years or younger) may not be used as interpreters. Patients have a right to free timely interpreter services and every reasonable effort will be made to minimize wait times for interpreter services. For consultation or assistance during regular business hours you may call 747- 210-3411.
Emergencies at OV
Pediatric codes (called Code White) are relatively rare at OVMC, especially on the wards. However, they may happen. To call a code white, alert the nearest nurse, or press the code button in the room. If a code white is called, the pediatric senior resident is the team leader, an ED attending and anesthesia resident/attending will join you in addition to RT, nursing etc. Codes are not called in the ED or in the ORs.
If a patient is coding the ED, the first resident to arrive will begin running the code with the ED team and as soon as possible will ensure that the Peds resident, or the EM resident assigned to peds for the day is alerted. You will work together as a team to care for the critically ill child.
Driving to Olive View
It takes approximately 30 minutes from UCLA (without traffic). Take the 405N to the 5N to the 210E. Get off at Roxford, make a left, go under the bridge and follow the frontage road going east next to the 210. See campus map. You will see OVMC approximately 1/2 mile down the road. Take left on first road when you see the hospital to get to visitor parking unless you have your parking permit. For lot G (resident parking lot), continue past the stop sign and turn left into Lot G. You’ll need your hang tag to avoid a ticket once in the lot.
Parking / Security at OVMC
For interns, on or prior to your first day, you should visit the pediatric administration office in cottage S (at the corners of Sycamore, Bucher, and Mesa, see map below, or OV Campus Map above) to get your parking permit (along with your meal card and computer access). If you haven’t gotten your parking permit by your first day, you can park in the visitor’s lot or the Bowl (where you parked for orientation) until you get your permit. Beware! Security has been known to ticket doctors when they catch them in the visitor’s lot.
As OVMC is a county facility, all individuals must pass through a security check point to gain entrance to the hospital. Wearing your ID badge will allow you to bypass this security check point, ie you will not need to go through the metal detectors. At night, call security if you need an escort to your car.
