CHLA ER

OVERVIEW
The CHLA ED is a high-volume emergency room set in a free-standing children's hospital. About 15 residency programs rotate through CHLA ED, including pediatrics, family medicine, and emergency medicine from a variety of institutions. It is a great experience, especially for those further interested in applying to PEM or PHM. During this rotation, you will work alongside residents from CHLA, Kaiser, and other programs to care for a wide variety of pediatric patients, from “bread and butter” general pediatric issues to more complex tertiary care problems similar to those seen at UCLA Reagan. The ER is staffed by attendings and fellows who specialize in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
ELECTIVE CONTACTS
REQUIRED EMR TRAINING

The EMR training module must be completed before your first day at CHLA (mandatory). The module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

About two weeks before your rotation start date, Debbie, our CHLA ED Administrative Coordinator, will send you your username and password.

For questions, please contact Debbie at dduya-cosio@chla.usc.edu.

SCHEDULE

Please review your schedule for mistakes. You will typically be given an average of 14-16 shifts per 4-week block with 4 weekend days per block. Residents may request up to 2 days off per block, and these requests must be submitted to Areli Gonzalez at least 2 months in advance so they can be incorporated into the Master Schedule. The ED schedule does change a bit, so please consistently review your shifts particularly prior to your first shift and then during your rotation.
