Complete the required EMR Training before your rotation begins

-
Please review your schedule each week. The schedule is finalized 1 month prior to your rotation; if there are any changes after that you will be notified.
-
Scheduling and resident questions should be directed to:
-
Debbie Jane Duya-Coscio: dduya-cosio@chla.usc.edu
-
Dr. Carly Andler: candler@chla.usc.edu
-
What to do on Day 1:

-

-

If your FIRST SHIFT is on a weekend or holiday, you must obtain your ID badge and parking 1-2 days BEFORE your first day. Please notify Lynnell or Dr. Andler if this is the case.
Directions:
-
From UCLA take 405N to 101S, exit Vermont or Sunset; with no traffic it takes 25 minutes.
-
Alternate routes include 10E exit at Vermont, but it takes 15 minutes to drive up to Sunset.
-
Just taking Sunset is also an option, usually about 45min door to door during rush hour, otherwise around 30-35min.
-
On your first day, please enter through the front of the hospital. Once you have a badge, you may enter through the staff entrance to the left of the main entrance
Interpreters:
-
CHLA has 24-hour per day in-person Spanish interpreters (with a few exceptions)
-
To request an interpreter, put up the “phone” found on the Launch Point main page
-
If interpreter services are needed to see a more critical patient, or for patient discharge, the interpreters may triage the multiple requests and ask you to use an iPad interpreter
-
-
For all other languages, or when an in-person Spanish interpreter is not available, there are iPads located near station 4 with translating service applications
As mentioned above, please swarm with an interpreter if one is needed to most efficiently use this valuable resource!
Other:
All and all a great rotation with a lot of opportunities for procedures and seeing interesting cases. You can tailor your experience to whatever you want, if you would like to do a lot of LPs or sutures or I&Ds or see more trauma you can always sign-up for those patients and/or let the attending or fellow know that you need to do more "______" (fill in the blank). You can even go up to the helicopter pad to transport kids to the ED! About 15 residency programs rotate through CHLA ED, including pediatrics, family medicine, and emergency medicine from a variety of institutions.
If you are ill and cannot come in, please notify the chief resident on call and we will be in discussion with the ED in regards to finding a replacement.
